KMB Route 78K

KMB Route 78K is a North District air-conditioned bus route operated by Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) in Hong Kong. It is one of the four bus routes in Hong Kong with the terminus in the Boundary Closed Area and is the only bus route that serves Sha Tau Kok. The route via Sheung Shui, Fanling, Sha Tau Kok Road, and Sha Tau Kok.
==History==

* 1 April 1912: Sha Tau Kok Branch Line of Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) commenced service.
* 1927: As an effect of the opening of Sha Tau Kok Road, the Sha Tau Kok Branch Line was cancelled on 1 April 1928 and was replaced by village bus service.
* 1930 - 1933: China Motor Bus (CMB) introduced route 18, plying between Fanling and Sha Tau Kok and replacing the village bus service.
* 11 June 1933: Area franchise became effective, CMB route 18 was transferred to KMB.
* October 1942 - August 1943: The Japanese Army occupied Hong Kong. Hong Kong Motor Transit Company operated route 6, operating between Shenzhen and Sha Tau Kok.
* 21 April 1946: KMB introduced route 4, operating between Yuen Long to Sha Tau Kok.
* October 1947: KMB split route 4 into two routes: route 18 (Fanling ←→ Sha Tau Kok) and route 20.
* 1 November 1955: The services of KMB routes 17 and 18 are modified. Both routes operated between Yuen Long and Sha Tau Kok.
* 6 April 1961: The service of route 18 was modified. The route operated from Yuen Long to Luk Keng.
* 20 April 1961: KMB introduced route 18A (Yuen Long ←→ Luk Keng via Sha Tau Kok).
* 3 September 1961: The service of route 18 is modified. The route operated from Yuen Long to Sha Tau Kok. The service of route 18A was also modified and operates from Sha Tau Kok to Luk Keng.
* 12 May 1963: The services of routes 17 and 18 were modified. Both routes operated between Yuen Long and Sheung Shui. KMB also introduced route 20 (Sheung Shui ←→ Sha Tau Kok).
* 16 July 1973: Due to route number regroup, route 20 is renamed Route 78. Route 80 was also introduced and operates between Sha Tau Kok and Luk Keng.
* 15 February 1975: The service of route 78 was modified. The route operates between Luen Wo Hui and Sha Tau Kok. Route 80 was permanently discontinued.
* 17 January 1977: KMB introduced route 78A (Luen Wo Hui ←→ Sha Tau Kok Government Secondary School).
* 1 March 1977: The service of route 78 was modified. The route operated between Sheung Shui and Sha Tau Kok.
* 24 June 1981: The service of route 78A was modified. The route operated between Luen Wo Hui and Luk Keng.
* 14 August 1983: In co-operation of the electrification of the KCR, route 78 was renamed route 78K.
* 28 April 1997: The service of route 78K was modified. The route operated via Choi Yuen Estate, Tin Ping Estate, and Wing Fai Centre.
* 13 July 1997: The route was fully air-conditioned as the result of the retirement of Leyland Victory Mark 2s in Hong Kong.
* 13 August 2012: The service of route 78K was modified. The route operated via Tai Ping Estate (North District Hospital), omit Choi Yuen Estate and Shek Wu Hui.
* 17 August 2013: The special departure service of route 78K from Sha Tau Kok was modified. The route operates between Sha Tau Kok and Wah Ming, omit Luen Wo Hui.
* 2 August 2014: The service of route 78K was modified. The route observed Tai Ping Estate (North District Hospital) only at non-peak hours.
